RFRI & TAG LOUISIANA INTRODUCES
TIMAU’S TAGIT LOUISIANA
RED SNAPPER TOURNAMENT
In 2022 the RFRI & CCA Louisiana will conduct a tag and release Red Snapper tournament designed to collect information used in making management decisions at the state & federal level. This tournament will collect valuable scientific data, include key stakeholders, and demonstrate novel approaches to collecting data real-time. The tournament will run concurrently with Louisiana’s recreational red snapper season starting generally the Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day, weekends only. Anglers fishing with a charter can also participate.
We are recruiting 300 anglers to participate. Once registered all anglers have to do is take a photo with the Angler Almanac app to enter fish, fish that are tagged will get bonus points.
This tournament will allow recreational anglers to participate in data collection giving them DIRECT ownership of the data, leading to INDIRECT participation into MANAGEMENT DECISIONS! The rodeo also introduces novel ways to collect precise and timely data NEEDED to manage fisheries with an in-season quota!
All anglers have to do is:
- Register for the tournament here
- Download the Angler Almanac app at the Apple Store
- Go fishing, catch a red snapper and take a picture with the Angler Almanac app
- Tag the snapper for bonus points (please only tag 2 fish per day)
Once you've registered, downloaded the App and activated your Location Services the photo and data is automatically transferred to managers! As a bonus the platform automatically links that fish with environmental data (i.e., salinity, water depth, air temperature, etc).
